Therapy Dog Program

Join Our Therapy Dog Program Today

Therapy dogs visit assisted living facilities, hospitals and similar types of places to provide comfort and joy to people who attend there. Owners must first have obtained the dog they wish to train. The dog must have their CGCA through the AKC or have completed obedience training with Jay’s Friends Dog Training to be eligible for the therapy dog program. The dog must also be evaluated before training begins.

Be aware that acceptance into this program does not guarantee service dog status. Jay’s Friends Dog Training cannot grant the title of therapy dog but rather trains and prepares teams to start working so they can be assessed by a therapy dog organization in future. Therapy dog training is a time consuming process that can costs thousands of dollars. this program will cost over $1000 and there is also a $25 application fee to submit this form.

Develop a Calm, Confident Therapy Dog

Our therapy dog training program helps dogs build the calm temperament, reliable manners, and social confidence needed for structured interactions with people. Through therapy dog socialization training, dogs practice appropriate greetings, handling, focus, and polite behavior around unfamiliar people, sounds, and environments. Each training plan can be adjusted to the dog’s experience level and individual needs, creating opportunities to strengthen obedience while building confidence in new situations. For dog owners in Clarksville, TN, this approach provides a practical foundation for dogs preparing to participate in community, care, educational, or other supportive settings.

Prepare for Meaningful Therapy Work

Successful therapy visits require more than a friendly personality; dogs need to remain composed, responsive, and predictable when surrounded by activity. Our therapy dog obedience training reinforces dependable cues, controlled greetings, patience, and appropriate behavior around groups of people. Training can also support therapy dog certification preparation by developing the practical skills commonly expected during evaluations and supervised visits. Whether your goal involves therapy dog training for hospitals, nursing homes, schools, or community programs, a structured therapy dog preparation program can help your dog become comfortable and consistent in a variety of environments.
